Step 2 - Tip # 4

75°F During the Day and 67°F at Night

Maintaining a temperature range of 67°F to 75°F is the target for consistent growth and high yields.

In optimal conditions, plants grow a new cluster every week. However, if the temperature is too low, it can easily take 2 weeks instead. This leads to massive yield losses at the end of the season!

To maintain a good balance between energy production and consumption, we need to keep the temperature a little hotter during the day and a little cooler at night.

Why?

Cooling down at night reduces the plant respiration (energy consumption), allowing it to preserve some of the energy it creates during the day.

On the other hand, high night temperatures don't slow down the respiration rate. The plant continues consuming energy and it creates a deficit. That is the moment plants start to be exhausted.

75°F during the day and 67°F at night are good targets to maximize growth and energy storage.

Why store energy?

While storing too much energy by keeping cold temperature at night is a waste of growth, you do want to store some energy.

Real life weather conditions are rarely optimal. Average temperatures often exceed the target, without anything we can do to cool it off enough.

Having a little surplus of energy helps the plants pass through the heat wave without too much damage.
