The best way to reflect light is a white surface.
Instead of using black landscape fabric to suppress weeds in the alleys, use white one!
Here is a link to buy white landscape fabric.
The fabric can reflect up to 90% of the light when brand-new and clean.
It does get dirty and reflects less over time, though.
But, with just a 5% light reflection (which is not a lot), you’ll get your money back in the first season. 5% of the average tomato yield (2 lbs/sq. ft) = $200/bed
Cost of fabric + labor = $100/bed
⚠️ Caution: Do not use the white side of a silage tarp. This gets very slippery when it’s wet.
