Step 4 - Tip #7

Weekly inspection

Designate one person on your team to be responsible for weekly inspections.

The inspection must take several minutes. Do not rush this inspection. That person should walk every path, looking both ways, bending down to check under the leaves, and spot-checking several clusters.

Things to look for:

  • 1. White spots on leaves (powdery mildew)
  • 2. Yellow leaves (deficiencies; maybe a problem later)
  • 3. Wilting plants (Sclerotinia)
  • 4. Gray moss on leaves, stem, and fruit (gray mold)
  • 5. Condensation on plastic, fruit, and leaves
  • 6. If you applied a treatment for disease or pest, analyze if it is working or if the problem continues to spread.
  • 7. Puddles of stagnant water

This way, you will be ahead of the problem and can take action quickly before losses occur.
