Taking the dead plant material out as you prune

Dead plant material left on the ground will rot and create an excellent habitat for diseases like gray mold.

‍💡 Note: When you see the gray moss that gray mold (Botrytis) makes, that means it's already sporulating. Take out the infected tissue, whether it be fruit, leaves, or stems, as soon as you find it.

A smart way to remove leaves and other pruned items is to use a container. Just push it in front of you as you prune. After breaking off a leaf, drop it right into the container. When the container is full, empty it outside the tunnel.

Place the container in front of you, allowing you to push it as you move. This prevents forgetting it and eliminates unnecessary trips. The ideal container holds the equivalent of one row of pruned leaves.

At the end of the row, empty it out.
