Step 4 - Tip #2

Use your heater’s fan to increase airflow

💡 This tip works best with a ducted heater.

Ask your electrician to add a switch that allows your heater’s fan to work without heating.

This will blow air through your poly tube, which normally distributes heat. This increased airflow helps prevent humidity concentration at the base of the plants. (figure 1)

This tip, along with good pruning and irrigation, can nearly eliminate sclerotinia rot pressure.

💡  Note on non-ducted heaters: We do not recommend this tip for non-ducted heaters. Often, these heaters hang close to the crop. Using it to circulate air would mean blowing air directly on the plants. This could dry them out excessively, causing more harm than good. ( figure 2)

⚠️  Caution: You need to turn off this fan when the humidity is too low. See Step 2 - Tip #3 for more information.
