Step 4 - Tip #5

Pulse out air every 40 min

The best way to lower humidity in a tunnel is to heat while the roll-ups are wide open.

The warm air escapes by the side, letting in fresh, drier air from the outside. Your heater ensures no cold shock occurs, providing a smooth air exchange for your crop.

Growers with the best results pulse air out for 6 min, and repeat it every 40 min when humidity is too high.

⚠️ The lower the graph line, the higher the humidity.

You can see the changes in humidity levels. There is no pink section. When every night looks like this, there are good chances that disease pressure is very low. Now, look at that graph that has no pulses. You can see that conditions are at risk of disease spread.

⚠️ The lower the graph line, the higher the humidity.

There are 3 ways to adjust your pulses:

  • Increase or decrease the duration of each pulse
  • Open more or less your roll-ups
  • Increase or decrease the time between pulses

The goal is to get the humidity out of the danger zone at each pulse. By doing this, you prevent the majority of disease’s spores from germinating and ruining your fall harvest.
