Alright ! We saw in Step 1 how to start right. Looking at the density number with a friend, we saw that the density alone could increase his revenue to $2,000/bed !
Now, in Step 2, we tackle how ventilation plays a role in keeping plants healthy all season long.
The plant produces energy through photosynthesis. It consumes energy to grow and to maintain roots, vines, leaves, flowers, and fruits. Match the energy consumption with energy production, and you’ll have healthy plants.
What does healthy mean ?
Healthy plants are better equipped to fend off diseases, pests, and environmental stresses.
The stems one foot below the top are as thick as a AA battery
The highest cluster on the plant has 3 tied-up fruit or 3 flowers still attached
The overall aspect of the plant is strong and lush
If plants consume more than they produce their stems get very spindly, blossoms drop, fruits take forever to grow… and they’re tiny. You see yield drops in July, even though it is a month with plenty of sunlight. Ending up far from the $15,000/bed you can achieve.
The step 2 tips use ventilation to achieve two goals:
From this point on, we’ll talk about automating most of the work. You can still benefit from the rest of the course without automation, but your capacity will be limited. For transparency, we fund the development of this course by helping farmers automate their work. That's why it's free!
